Empower Hour With Guest Karen Hurley

Zoom, Worldwide

Today we have an inspirational woman 'Karen 'Hurley' joining us to share her story.  A woman who has faced many obstacles, someone extraordinary yet ordinary, relatable yet unique. A woman who has got up time and time again, overcoming the challenges that have tried to hold her back.

In 2010, Karen Hurley was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma – a kind of blood cancer. Scans, biopsies and 12 months of treatment followed – along with hair loss, weight gain and financial problems. Karen was told that she had a strong chance of survival but would lose her fertility. For a woman of 39, who was adopted and without children of her own, this was a difficult challenge to face. Two years later, the overwhelming tiredness Karen continued to experience proved to be a return of blood cancer, now at stage 4 and a spleen the size of a rugby ball. Over the next 12 months, she survived major abdominal surgery, intensive chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. After 6 years in remission, Karen is grateful to be sharing the lessons learned about ‘the C word’, friendship, soap opera and the importance of enjoying a ‘cancer bonus’ once in a while.

The 'EMPOWER HOUR WITH LUCIE BURNS,' is a weekly conversation and discussion group for women, created to empower, uplift, inspire and engage. Each week Lucie will choose a different topic or theme which she will share her insight and wisdom on, giving everyone the opportunity to gain a new understanding of the subject matter by delving a little deeper into it. She will then invite an open and honest conversation within the group, followed by a Q&A and a short meditation to finish.

The group will be a safe and supportive space for women where you can come and listen, talk, laugh or cry. A space where you, your thoughts and feelings will be acknowledged, validated, shared and listened to, a place where you don't have to be anything other than who you are.

The group will be led by Lucie Burns also known as the artist, songwriter and music producer Lazy Hammock. Lucie is also an author and coach and facilitator in the areas of personal development and transformation and performance, confidence and mindset. Lucie is also the Founder of Stage Ready Artists, a performance coaching company for artists and creatives who want to overcome their performance fears so they can step on stage and shine.
